York House Wedding, London | Rachel & Callum
This was a short 2 hour booking involving just the wedding ceremony and drinks reception afterwards, and the truth is, I rarely take these on for a variety of reasons but I might save that for a future blog post! However, York House is a gorgeous venue that’s very local to me and I loved the way Rachel described the vibe she was after for her intimate wedding to Callum; namely relaxed, chilled and unposed with a whole bunch of kiddos running riot - exactly the sort of occasion I love documenting.
York House is a registry office based in Twickenham, but unlike many Council-run offices, this venue looks more like a 17th century stately home, with beautiful grounds and photo opportunities aplenty nestled along the banks of the River Thames. It also has a number of rooms dedicated to wedding ceremonies and the one used by Rachel and Callum was also my favourite; the Winter Garden. This is a lovely conservatory splendidly decorated with an assortment of potted and hanging plants that give it a lovely backdrop for the ceremony photos. As ever at York House, the registrars were super friendly and didn’t mind me using a little pop of flash to just help with the room’s lighting. In no time at all, and after some tears from the guests, the ceremony was complete and we were ushered into the adjoining Terrace Room, where drinks and nibbles were being served.
The original plan was for everyone to relax a while, enjoy a few drinks and congratulate the couple before going outside for the confetti toss and some group photos, but as the clouds were beginning to gather, we took the decision to head out sooner rather than later and nail all the outside pics while the sun was still shining! Thankfully, York House has a great elevated area above the rear garden, and we soon had two beautifully arranged lines of people armed with fistfuls of confetti ready to be launched over the heads of our new Bride and Groom. Then, it was time to gather on the steps for the group photos, which Rachel and Callum had already provided lists for (I request this in the questionnaire I send all my couples a month prior to their wedding) which meant we were able to efficiently crack through them before the heavens opened and step back inside for another refreshing glass of Prosecco.
Although I was only with them for a couple of hours, I delivered 230 photos (double that, if you include the black & white set) which I’m happy to say reflected every key moment of the short time we spent together.
