Hillingdon Register Office Wedding | Abi & Conor

Early May weddings are always a bit of a lottery when it comes to the kind of weather to expect.  This was one of those Springs where April showers outstayed their welcome and the stormy bands of low pressure from the Atlantic seemed unrelenting.  So it was with great relief, and no little surprise, when Abi and Conor chose the perfect Sunday for their wedding and enjoyed a glorious occasion in the mid-20s celsius.

The ceremony itself was at Hillingdon Register Office, where I’ve shot several times before and am reminded each time how the halogen spotlights in the ceiling have a habit of casting really strong shadows on the wedding party if you’re not careful!  Taking precautions to expose for the highlights and angling yourself to capture the most flattering light is the order of the day here and I’m happy to say Bride & Groom looked radiant as they took their vows.  A few tears were shed among the friends and family as emotions ran high, but in no time at all, the rings were exchanged and out we went into the courtyard to celebrate the newly married couple with a liberal dousing of bubbles!!

Abi and Conor had written some private vows, so immediately after all the group shots had been taken on the lawned area adjacent to Hillingdon Register Office, we took a short drive to the absolutely gorgeous Eastcote House Gardens.  There is a beautifully manicured walled area, and after enjoying a little stroll around to appreciate the blooms, we stopped for the recital of the vows they had written for each other.  I set-up a spare camera on a tripod and recorded a video of the event, while simultaneously taking still photos, as this was one of the key moments of the entire day for them both.  We then took advantage of a few other photo opportunities as we had another little wander around the gardens, before heading back to the guests (and party) that was awaiting at The Woodman Pub in Pinner.

After the toasts and any empty glasses recharged, a BBQ meal (as befitting the weather) was prepared for all and sundry until we all reconvened again for the cake-cutting.  Then it was time for several more refreshing drinks before nipping out quickly again to take advantage of the golden-hour light just before sunset.  Upon our arrival, the music was turned up and the funky shapes began arriving on the dance floor.
