Herons Farm Wedding, Berkshire | Rachel & Can
As I sit in front of my computer writing this, it’s almost 5 months to the day since I shot this wedding. Note to self, I really have to improve my discipline when it come to updating my journal. Anyway, this one was a scorcher. Not just in terms of the amazing time that was had by all, including me, but the fact it happened on the hottest day of the year. I think the mercury got up to 37°C which seems such a distant memory now we’re in mid winter.
Proceedings got underway at the bride’s childhood home, where Sarah, her bridesmaids and mum and dad were getting ready for the celebration that was to come. There was a lovely dress reveal and gift exchange for the bridesmaids, followed by a quick pop into the beautifully manicured garden (Sarah’s mum definitely has green fingers) for a dress reveal to her dad who looked proud as punch. We took a few group shots in the garden before I headed to Herons Farm in Pangbourne where Can (the groom) was getting ready in one of the upstairs suites. When I arrived I really felt for him as wedding attire, for men in particular, really isn’t designed for tropical temperatures and even with all the windows open, the warms blasts of air from outside made it seem like groom prep was taking place in a sauna! We managed to get some great images though, before venturing back downstairs and into the shade of the pagoda to await Sarah’s arrival.
Sarah’s dad walked her down the aisle, with Sarah and Can’s little boy being the ring bearer. After the vows we had a few emotional speeches that definitely brought tears to the eyes, followed by a hunt for some tree cover where we all assembled for group photos on Herons Farm’s expansive lawns. Confetti was next on the agenda and then some well earned refreshments before taking a quick stroll down some country lanes for the couple photos. Back at the venue it was ‘candids time’, with me mingling among the guests happily snapping away at grown-ups rehydrating themselves and the many children in attendance enjoying fun and games on the grass.
It was always the intention to pop back out again after the wedding breakfast to take some sunset pictures around golden hour. Of course this is weather dependent, but I don’t think there was much doubt this particular evening would yield anything but the most spectacular sunset imaginable. And so it was. The rolling fields around Herons Farm providing the perfect backdrop to the newly wedded couple. Back at the venue, there was a cake to cut, followed by a few more welcome refreshments before the DJ played out the first dance. Then the party started!
Massive thanks to the amazing couple, guests and owners of Herons Farm for putting on such a superb celebration in what could have been quite challenging conditions. Thankfully, the plentiful outdoor space, tree cover and copious cold drinks ensured a stunning time was had by all.
