Old Marylebone Town Hall Wedding, London | Becky & Michael
This was an absolute delight to be a part of, as not only do I love photographing weddings at the magnificent Old Marylebone Town Hall, I also got to go on a mini tour of London on the vintage Routemaster bus that Becky & Michael had hired for the occasion.
But the wedding began at Marylebone with Michael plus guests and loved congregating on the famous steps outside. All the groomsmen looking splendidly sharp in their black tie attire, with the inevitable, in my experience, issue of at least one bow-tie refusing to behave and requiring a hasty YouTube tutorial and several goes to get right!
As is customary at this venue, they are ruthlessly efficient with their timings, so right on cue, we were asked to walk upstairs to the Mayfair Room, where the ceremony was due to take place, but I hung back a few minutes since Becky was just around the corner with her father in order to arrive separately from the main wedding party. Once I’d captured their arrival, I made a hasty trip up to the Mayfair Room where Michael and the rest of the wedding party were patiently waiting for Becky to make her entrance. Emotions ran high as the vows and rings were exchanged (Michael’s little niece being the lovely ring-bearer) but once moist eyes were dried, the friendly officiants kindly granted me a few minutes to take some shots of the newly married couple inside the venue while their loved ones gathered on the steps for the iconic confetti shot and group photos.
By this time the vintage Routemaster bus had arrived but we still had 15 minutes spare in our schedule to quickly head over to Salisbury Place, just behind Marylebone Town Hall, to take some couple portraits of Becky and Michael on the pretty cobbled streets.
At the time of booking, Becky mentioned she wanted to stop-off at one of London’s iconic landmarks for some additional photos, but wasn’t sure whether Big Ben or St Paul’s Cathedral would be the best choice, but in the end she settled on the latter, and I’m glad she did as I’m very familiar with the area and regularly take my couples across the Millennium Bridge, back through St Paul’s Churchyard and onto Paternoster Square for photographs featuring the stunning Cathedral as their backdrop.
Then it was back on the bus to head to Amalfi Ristorante, just of Regent Street, for the reception dinner and where the speeches and cake-cutting would take place later in the evening. A wonderful little city wedding which had a bit of everything and was an absolute joy to be part of.
